Sha'ab Claudia
Sha'ab Claudia is one of the most distinctive dive experiences in the Fury Shoals, a reef built around a coral cave structure that draws divers in, routes them through a sequence of chambers and passages, and returns them to open water on the outer reef. The cave is not a technical cave dive: it is navigable with a torch, has natural light near the entrances, and is appropriate for Advanced Open Water divers. But it is a genuine cave, not an overhang or a shallow swim-through, and it should be treated as one.
Entry to the cave takes you into the reef structure at around 8–12m. Inside, the walls and ceiling carry coral growth unlike anything visible on the open reef face, the cave environment creates conditions for coral species that thrive in low light and still water. The path through follows a natural corridor with chambers opening as you move deeper into the reef. Natural light filters through gaps in the structure in places. The exit returns you to open water on the outer reef face.
The outer reef at Claudia is excellent diving in its own right. Sea fans, gorgonians and hard coral formations cover the face from the shallows down to around 25m. Grey reef sharks and whitetip reef sharks are regular on the outer wall. Eagle rays cross the open sections. Turtles are encountered both inside the cave and on the outer reef, the site holds a resident population. Access is by speedboat from Hamata. Wadi Lahami operates day trips when conditions permit and frequently pairs Claudia with a second Fury Shoals site in the same day.
Enter the cave from the marked entry point at 8–12m with your guide leading. Keep your torch on, your fins clear of the walls, and follow the passage through its natural corridor. The exit returns you to the outer reef face. From the exit, work along the outer reef in either direction, sea fans, grey reef sharks and turtles on the outer face. Return to the entry side for ascent. The cave section takes approximately 15–20 minutes; leave yourself gas for an extended outer reef circuit.
Dive the outer reef face without entering the cave, a good option for a second dive, for divers without a torch, or for those who want more time on the open wall. The outer face from the shallows to 25m has excellent coral coverage: sea fans, gorgonians and healthy hard coral at all depths. Grey reef sharks are regular on the outer edge.
