Erg Abu Ramada
Erg Abu Ramada is a cluster of coral pinnacles about 12km southeast of Hurghada, rising from a sandy seafloor at 18m. Each pinnacle is carpeted stem to tip in some of the densest Dendronephthya soft coral growth in the northern Red Sea, reds, oranges and yellows packed so tightly the structure beneath disappears. This is a photogenic site even for underwater photographers who have seen dozens of Red Sea reefs.
The pinnacles are relatively shallow, the tops reach to 3–5m, making this a comfortable dive for a wide range of experience levels with a long bottom time. Anthias swarm every pinnacle in hundreds, jacks and barracuda circle the outer edges, and the sandy floor between the formations hosts crocodilefish and occasional nurse sharks. One of the most popular day trips out of Hurghada, often paired with the nearby Sha'b Abu Ramada for a full day of shallow reef diving.
