Clarification: Sea Spirit and Sea Serpent

The vessel involved in this incident, Sea Spirit, is not connected to the Sea Serpent Fleet.

The similarity in names has caused confusion in some online discussions, but the two operate under separate ownership and are unrelated.

About the Area

Gebel El Zeit lies along the western side of the Gulf of Suez and is one of the main transit corridors used by Red Sea liveaboards travelling between Hurghada and northern dive destinations.

The area is also home to significant offshore petroleum infrastructure, which is why rescue assets from petroleum operators were among the first to respond.

While vessel incidents in the area have received attention in recent years, there is currently no evidence linking the loss of Sea Spirit to any broader pattern or local hazard.

Atlas Position

At the time of publication, the cause of the sinking remains unknown.

What is known is that a vessel was lost, four crew members survived, and one crew member did not.

The Atlas will continue to update this record as official findings become available.
